Shira Gepstein (b. 1978, Moshav Gat-Rimon, Israel), graduate with honors from the Faculty of Arts, Hamidrasha School of Art, Beit Berl College (2004). Gepstein has held numerous solo exhibitions in galleries in Israel and at the Mishkan Museum of Art, Ein Harod (2022). She has also participated in group exhibitions in galleries and Museums in Israel, including the Israel Museum, Jerusalem (2006); Mishkan Museum of Art, Ein Harod (2016); and the Negev Museum of Art, Beersheba (2016). She has also been exhibited at the Mediterranean International Biennale, Haifa (2021); and the Biennale of Art, Crafts & Design, Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv (2020, 2023). Gepstein is the recipient of the Lottery Council for Culture and the Arts Grant, Mifal HaPais Art Incubator, Mishkan Museum of Art, Ein Harod (2021), The Israel Ministry of Culture Creativity Encouragement Award (2024)

But the paintings of poetry Gepstein offers, points us to unexpected extreme events such as these. Laying expressive and aggressive paint strokes, dissolving into scenes supposedly naïve, sort of banal photographs of mothers in urban surroundings. As such they only look naïve and relaxed, but in reality, they are alive, kicking, disturbed, attacked and surrounded by noise. Gepstein produces expressive new, fresh, full of life paintings”.
